ANC6C02 Commish Mark Dixon Calls for Zero Tolerance
At the ANC6C02 Single Member District Meeting last night, my friend Commissioner Mark Dixon (right), who's district borders my SMD on the southeast corner, called for zero tolerance from his constituents. Whether it's garbage pickup or crime, Mr Dixon wants each and every individual who notices problems in his area to contact the City's Service Request Center (202/727-1000) or the MPD (331 or 911) to report problems right away. It is sound advice that will help and encourage the City to track statistics on where it needs to devote more resources.
As Mark stated, “the City has a lot of money to address problems,” but it is up to citizens to serve as the eyes and ears of City agencies and call them directly when necessary if you fail to see necessary action in a reasonable amount of time. Mr Dixon also gave a shout out to ANC6C02 resident activist and good neighbor named Peggy who vigilantly takes action to clean up the area around her business.
“If we act together we can get a lot done in our community. And folks should call me if they don't see things getting done.”

Mr Dixon alerted residents to the fact that Bible Way Temple, at 1100 New Jersey Ave, will be holding its annual conference in a couple of weeks and they have already received permits to allow for parking on both sides of the 1100 block of NJ Ave for the five day conference. Nearby residents shouldn't worry about parking problems, but should be aware that there will likely be a bit more traffic congestion on the streets.
Aside from addressing other neighborhood concerns about developments in his area, he noted that Harris Teeter is seeking to move into the NoMa area. Someone also mentioned that it would also be nice to see My Organic Market move into the area to give residents more healthy and affordable shopping options.
Rev Adamio Boddie was present at the meeting to discuss Saturday's Shaw Community Day activities and to answer questions. There will be no street closures for the event. Although parking should not be a problem, there may be increased traffic along New Jersey Avenue which might warrant some traffic control by the MPD. Both the 3rd and 1st District MPD are exptected to be on hand Saturday — with scout cars, horse and Seqway patrols — to promote safety.
