Jobs, Jobs, Jobs and More
To address the recent and uncomfortable levels of crime in the City and Ward 2 in particular, Council Member Jack Evans and Tyrone Parker, Director of the Alliance for Concerned Men, called a meeting in the heart of Shaw at the Kennedy Recreation Center to promote job opportunities to those who are tempted by criminal activity for lack of more constructive and beneficial pursuits. Representatives from several criminal gangs came out, Mayor Fenty (above) and Council Council Chair Vincent Gray came out, At-Large Council Member Kwame Brown and other department heads were also present as a part of the City government's outreach effort.
A listing of several of the points of contact for the hundreds of employment and apprenticeship opportunities that are available to local young people ages 14 and upwards are listed in the first comment (below). If you know someone who needs a job, please pass the list along and tell them to sit down on the phone and contact each and every office until they have a solid lead on a job.
If they reach the end of the list and do not have a lead, they should start again at the top and contact the City's Department of Employment Services Ward 2 Liaison, Ms Malika Abdullah (below in red), malika.abdullah ]at[ dc.gov, who will offer further assistance and guidance.
